CARLA Simulator is an open-source simulation platform for autonomous driving research and development. It offers realistic urban environments, dynamic weather conditions, multi-sensor integration, and scenario-based testing, serving both academic and industrial users. The project began in 2016 at the Computer Vision Centre in Barcelona and was publicly released in 2017, with additional involvement from an entity based in California.
